The A30/A35 Managing Agent Contractor Contract (MAC)

SWH and Balfour Beatty formed a Joint Venture in 1996 when the two companies first secured this road maintenance Contract with Connect Roads.

 

The trunk road route runs from the M5 at Exeter to Bere Regis near Poole, some 62 miles.

 

The highway road maintenance project originated in 1996 as part of the Government's Private Finance Initiative (PFI). Since commencement, the Joint Venture partners have contributed to Connect Roads winning a project First Place, Green Apple Award: Green Champion in the Highways Sector 2005.

 

The highways maintenance contract has evolved through its life including, into a Managing Agent Contractor Contract (MAC) at its 2006 renewal. This has been renewed again to run until 2016 on an e-MAC basis with the Joint Venture partners assuming more responsibility in respect to Life Cycle works and with enhanced Service Levels.

  • 24 emergancy phones
  • 70 kilometers of safety fencing
  • 443 kilometers of white lines
  • 40,000 road studs
  • 82 safety bollards


Scope of works:

 

  • Cyclic, emergency and winter maintenance
  • Routine Maintenance responsibility
  • On site management and operation of the A30 / A35 network including inspections, customer care and works identification and management
  •  Off site specialist support including Principal bridge inspections, geotechnical, traffic engineering advice and ecology, soft estate and landscape management
  •  Periodic (Life Cycle) works to roads and bridges
  •  Network enhancement schemes
