Devon County Council’s roads were the reason South West Highways was set up in 1995 when we won the Term Maintenance Contract for the County’s 13,500 km of carriageway. Since that time we have won the Exeter City TMC, now incorporated into Devon’s contract, and the Balfour Beatty joint venture on the A30/35 from Exeter to Bere Regis in Dorset. Under the SWH ROADS banner we cover Construction, Surfacing, Surface Dressing, Sign Design, Construction and Erection and Traffic Management, as well as the maintenance of roads. Maintenance involves a host of operations such as Gulley Cleansing, Grass Cutting & Hedge Trimming, Drainage, Fencing, Ditch Clearing and Flood Alleviation, as well as perhaps the most visible, winter work involving Gritting & Snow Ploughing to keep the highways open.
